When do you think your favorite NASCAR driver will retire?
Posted on May 30, 2009 under Retire |Mark Martin is racing strong at 50. Do you think your driver will still be racing at 50, or retire sooner? What goals would they want to accomplish before they retire (one championship? 200 wins throughout the series, etc.)?
48 MOJO, I may not care for JJ, but that is some enthusiasm!
Well, my favorite is Mark Martin, and I have no idea when he will retire. I guess when he loses the desire to compete and the love he has for racing is gone, which he hasn't shown any signs of either, so your guess is as good as mine.
I would love to see him win races at tracks he's never won on (Pocono, Daytona, Chicagoland, Indianapolis, Homestead and New Hampshire), and a championship would be nice, but if he can't get that elusive title, I'll be happy with wins on any of the above mentioned tracks.

If Jeff's back pain cannot be managed I say 5 more years maybe sooner….if it can be managed I say 10. Jeff has made it clear he doesnt want to be 50 and still driving. I see his point its not like he needs the money!

Kasey is still young enough that his best days are ahead of him, so I wouldn't think for at least 10 more years. I hope that he has as much sense as he seems to so that he will not just keep on going when he is no longer a factor, though. As much as I like him, I would rather when he reaches a point where he is in danger of being a constant also-ran that he would exit gracefully. I'm not really sure what his goals are although I'm sure he wants at least one championship.

Mine already did. Dale Jarrett. It has been tough because he left in the middle of the Season last year. My husband and I knew several years ago, that Dale was going to retire around '08 or '09. We just didn't expect all to happen so quickly. I had followed Jarrett for about 14 years. He was the first driver I picked, when I got into Nascar.
My Hubby and I started considering what we would do several years ago. It was about the same time that Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards were starting out. We decided to narrow it down between those 2. We like Dale Jr and love to see him do well, but we didn't want to be like everybody else.
We chose Carl Edwards. It still doesn't feel the same. It is really odd. We often cheer for Jr, too. It is nice to have a driver like Carl, who is fun to watch and very competitive.

well, Jeremy probably will never race again unless he gets reinstated, so I'll say his current age. I don't WANT him to leave NASCAR anytime soon, but with all of the crap surrounding him, NASCAR may not allow an opportunity for reinstatement.
